In-Depth Review |
1-on-1-Resumes.com
For those job seekers on a very tight budget,
1-on-1-Resumes.com
offers bargain basement pricing ($89.95), and the same
low price regardless of experience level. To
sweeten the deal even further, interviews are guaranteed
within 30 days or they will re-write your resume at no
additional charge.
So why only two stars? Because of the down side of most
budget resumes: writing quality. In the case of
1-on-1-Resumes.com, $89.95 isn't going to buy the same quality
of workmanship as say, the $199.95 resume over at
ResumeWriters.com or ResumeEdge.com,
two companies in particular that garnered a 5-star
rating. That is, if the resume samples posted at
1-on-1's website are any indication. Those samples
are OK, but not nearly as good as those over at
the two companies mentioned above. Still, at less than
half the price...
Here's How It Works
On the home page, you'll see a link marked "Click Here
To Have Us Write Your Resume!" Click it, and follow the
subsequent instructions. You'll be asked to forward an existing
resume (if you have one), and/or provide your relevant career information via their
online form. You'll be given the opportunity to add
additional services to your order, like cover letters,
follow-up letters, etc. Complete your order and make
payment.
Don't expect a telephone interview with your assigned
writer. At these prices, that's not in the cards. But you are
given a means to communicate directly with your writer, should
the need arise.
You'll see your finished resume in 2-3 business days
via email in Microsoft Word format. Contact your writer if you
need to make any changes or corrections. Now, put your resume
to work: you've got 30 days to line up at least one job
interview, or the company will re-write your resume at no
charge.
Here's What We Liked
- Pricing is hard to beat; at $89.95, it's one price fits
all.
- Ready in 2-3 business days, with faster turnaround
available for an extra fee.
- Hard copies (printed on paper) are available.
- An interview is guaranteed within 30 days, or they will
re-work and re-write your resume.
- The Better Business Bureau gives them an "A" rating.
That's pretty good, and should provide some level of
assurance to prospective clients; the company meets
BBB accreditation standards, and is committed to making
good faith efforts to resolve any customer complaints.
- In business since 1999. Longevity counts for something,
especially on the Web.
Here's What We Didn't
Like
- While I'm sure the writers are professional, there is
no indication that they are certified, as in
Certified Professional Resume Writer. While
certification alone is no assurance of writing quality, it
does imply a certain base level of resume knowledge and
marketing savvy. We like to see certification.
- A detailed, one-on-one telephone interview is not in
the cards. Instead, the writer gathers the necessary
information via the online form you fill out, and your
uploaded resume. Yes, you can communicate with your writer
via messaging, but a full-blown interview is not modus
operandi. (We have a bias toward telephone
interviews).
- Resume samples posted on the company website indicate a
lesser quality of workmanship than those of our 4 and
5-star companies. Admittedly, those 4 and 5-star companies
charge more for their services.

The Wrap Up
Good news for those on a tight budget: get a
professional resume for less than ninety bucks. The bad
news is that the writing quality is not up to par with the
services we rate 4 and 5 stars. If you really need to watch
your pennies, consider this service. If you've got a few more
bucks to spare, we suggest the $129.95 resume over at
CareersPlusResumes.com. It's a significant leap ahead in
writing quality, and all the writers are certified. Better
still, the $199.95 resume over at
ResumeWriters.com or ResumeEdge.com,
two companies with top-notch certified writers and very
attentive customer service. See the pull-down menu
above for in-depth reviews of each of these
companies.
