"... a major improvement from what I sent you. Hats off the the writer." - D.K., Financial Analyst

By David Alan Carter

While we have some concerns (see below), Careers Plus Resumes, or CPResumes.com, achieved a 3-star rating for a number of reasons, chief among them: affordable pricing and one of the stronger guarantees in the business. What's the guarantee? Unlimited revisions for a full 90 days, and a partial refund if you don't land an interview within that time frame.

As expected, the writers are all Certified Professional Resume Writers. And, according to the company, there's one additional plus: they're all former hiring managers. No one knows better what a hiring official is looking for on a resume than someone with a similar hiring background. You'll get that double expertise, here -- skilled writers and individuals who have made executive-level hiring decisions in industry.

Here's How It Works

Determine your level of experience. For example, entry level (just starting out), professional (mid-career), or executive (C-level). There's a page for each, with upfront pricing and packages (i.e. resume Careers Plus Resumes.comalone, resume with cover letter, resume with cover and thank you, etc.). Place your order on their secure site.

Complete their online questionnaire and upload/fax an existing resume, if available. You'll be assigned a resume writer who specializes most closely in your particular profession or discipline. You'll be contacted by your writer, who will arrange a one-on-one phone consultation to gather more information and get to know you better. You can do that chat via email if you prefer (we advise going with the phone interview).

Your documents will be crafted and you'll receive a first draft via email within 24-48 hours. If everything is good, download the attachments (Word, PDF and ASCII file formats) and save them to your computer. If revisions are needed, you've got 90 days of free editing. The company will keep a backup of all your documents for safe keeping, and for any future updating.

Here's What We Liked

  • Beyond certification, the writers have hiring experience. Each writer is a Certified Professional Resume Writer. But beyond that, each has an industry background that included executive-level hiring. That's a good combination of talents you want working on your resume.
  • One-on-one phone consultation with your writer is a given. Unlike some companies that try to get by with just an email form, CPResumes understands that the best resumes result from a personal dialog with your writer.
  • Multiple distribution formats at no extra charge. Your finished resume comes to you keyword optimized in Word Doc, PDF and ASCII file formats.
  • Turnaround is fast (24 to 48 hours).
  • Pricing is comparatively very reasonable and up front. All pricing is spelled out and easy to find on the web site.
  • 90-day guarantee includes assurance of an interview. Unlimited resume edits for a full 90 days. And get some money back if you don't land an interview within that time frame.

Here's What We Didn't Like

As of January 2012, the Better Business Bureau rates this company a C- on a scale of A+ to F. That's an improvement over the previous score of D+ for all of 2011. The BBB goes on to note a "pattern of complaints" ranging from inattentive customer service to resumes not being delivered within the specified time frames. In fairness, one has to take into account a company's size and volume of transactions when considering customer complaints, and this is a sizable company that writes a lot of resumes. It's also worth noting that management has made overtures toward establishing procedures to more effectively resolve customer issues -- as also reported by the BBB. That said, we remain concerned.

Careers Plus Resumes Review - The Wrap Up

From a user-friendly website to reasonable pricing and a guarantee that speaks to people (money back), Careers Plus Resumes has a lot going for it. The talent behind the writing is evident and available to see via the samples posted on the site (and we like what we saw).

Still, given our concerns over the BBB report, we would advise prospective customers to balance the pros and cons to their own satisfaction. And if need be, compare with other companies we've reviewed -- including our Top Ranked ResumeWriters.com, our review of which can be found HERE. Or if budget is a concern, a close alternative to consider in this price range would be the $149.00 resume over at ResumeCorner.com, reviewed HERE.

The most unprofessional company!
Nancy from Arizona
Using this service was a complete waste of time and money! They are lazy, sloppy and unprofessional. Do not waste your time or money with this company that provides generic cover letters and resumes that you can easily find online.

Ridiculous!
Joan from Illinois
This company has no professionalism what so ever. I had an online chat last week to ask some questions and the rep was sarcastic, called me an idiot and said he was glad that I would be not using their services. When I complained the "person" actually defended the actions and stated that he didn't have time to actually answer my questions so he used cut-and-paste answers. Whatever. After saying they didn't have time to waste this person emailed with me 4 separate times. I kept responding because I was bored and it was fun. Using this company would be flushing your money down the toilet.

Terrible Customer Service
Regret I used this company from Georgia
I had this company write a resume for me, I did not do my research before having this company write me a resume. This turned out to be the worst experience that I have ever had with any company providing a service for me. My resume included some mistakes with my skills and qualifications, when I advised the resume writer about it, he had an attitude and started arguing with me about the resume and services. The resume writers with this company get off on arguing with the customers and what kind of company does that? This is the worst resume service and they have 28 complaints with the BBB for a reason. The resume writers at this company need training in customer service, because they don't know how to talk to customers. I definitely do not recommend this company to anybody.
