In-Depth Review |
ResumesPlanet.com
For those job seekers on a tight budget, Resumes
Planet offers a compelling price structure - under a
hundred bucks buys a resume built from scratch. If all you
need is a bit of editing to an existing resume, the price
drops to a reasonable $74.95. The work is done by pro
writers belonging to the Professional Association of Resume
Writers (an industry trade organization). And to sweeten the
deal even further, the company guarantees you'll receive at
least one interview within 30 days, or you can request a
revision of the resume at no charge.
So why only three stars? Because of the down side of most
budget resumes: quality. In the case of ResumesPlanet.com,
$94.95 (the cost to a mid-level professional) isn't going to
buy the same quality of workmanship as say, the $199.95 resume
over at
ResumeWriters.com or ResumeEdge.com,
two companies in particular that garnered a 5-star
rating. That is, if the resume samples posted at the
Planet's website are any indication. Those samples
are good, but not as good as those over at the
two companies mentioned above. Still, at less than half
the price...
Here's How It Works
Navigate to the category that best fits your work history:
entry level, professional, career change,
executive, military or federal. Decide if you want to
include a cover letter (also reasonably priced). Or buy the
full package (resume, cover letter, thank
you and follow-up letters). Fill in their order form,
and send in your career information. They will ask you
to upload your current resume, if you have one.
You can communicate with your assigned writer either via
phone or messaging system. You'll receive your finished resume
within 72 hours in four formats: WORD, electronic, scannable
and web.
The company guarantees your satisfaction - and at least one
interview. If you need to make an immediate change or
correction to the resume, message your writer and it will
usually be taken care of in a matter of hours.
Then, at the end of 30 days if you haven't received an
interview invitation, you can request a re-write of the
resume.
Here's What We Liked
- With 200+ writers in their network, they're able
to assign you to a writer who best matches your profession
or discipline.
- Pricing was upfront and very reasonable.
- Four distribution formats. Receive your resume
in Microsoft Word, electronic, scannable and web
formats.
- They provide you with 10 top job sites, making
it easy to post the electronic version of your resume to
those sites.
- An interview is guaranteed.
Here's What We Didn't
Like
- While all writers are members of an industry
association (Professional Association of Resume Writers),
not all writers hold industry certification. Some
do, but some don't.
- A detailed, one-on-one telephone interview is not in
the cards. Instead, the writer gathers the necessary
information via the online form you fill out, and your
uploaded resume. Yes, you can communicate with your writer
via phone and messaging, but a full-blown interview is not
modus operandi. (Tip: we have a bias toward telephone
interviews).
- Resume samples posted on the company website indicate a
lesser quality of workmanship than those of our 4 and
5-star companies. Admittedly, those 4 and 5-star companies
charge more for their services.
ResumesPlanet.com Review - The
Wrap Up
Good news for the budget conscious: get a professional
resume for less than a hundred bucks. The bad news is that the
writing quality is not up to par with the services we rate 4
and 5 stars. If you really need to watch your pennies, consider
this service. If you've got a few more bucks to spare, we
suggest the $129.95 resume over at
CareersPlusResumes.com. It's a significant leap ahead in
writing quality, and all the writers are certified. Better
still, the $199.95 resume over at
ResumeWriters.com or ResumeEdge.com,
two companies with top-notch certified writers and very
attentive customer service. See the pull-down menu
above for in-depth reviews of each of these companies.
